TRADE ALERT: Jeeva for Bernet
We have a trade to announce.
Nashville receives: Sanjay Jeeva
Atlanta receives: David Bernet
The story for this trade starts with availability concerns, as it often does in the NSL. Nashville plays Chicago next Saturday, and needed more quality depth to compete with a stacked Grizzlies lineup. Acquiring Sanjay Jeeva solves that problem. Jeeva, the current World #62, will immediately factor into the Crushers’ lineup on April 11th, presumably alongside Moustafa El Sirty and Ronald Palomino.
It’s easy to understand why Nashville made this trade. Short term lineup concerns should take precedence over long term plans at this point in NSL history. Nashville is 1-0, hoping to lock down a playoff spot with a win next Saturday, so a win-now move makes sense. That said, I really like what Atlanta accomplished here knowing Nashville’s sense of urgency. David Bernet hasn’t factored into the 2026 NSL season. But, he’s the current world #67 at just 20 years old. That potential development curve alone is worth rostering. I’m sure Nashville is bummed not to keep Bernet, so credit to Atlanta for taking a worthwhile swing. To make matters better for Atlanta, Jeeva was their 6th round pick this past draft, meaning they acquired a 20 year old top-70 player in the world for 6th-round value. Again, Nashville did what they had to do. But you have to applaud the Atlanta Tornados for finding some value here.
It’ll be fascinating to see how Bernet factors into the Tornados’ long-term plans. But for now, all eyes are on Sanjay Jeeva and the Nashville Crushers. Be sure to tune into Nashville vs Chicago on Saturday April 11th at 5:30 ET to see Jeeva in action with his new squad!
